Dr. Patricia Slaughter

The mission of Trantwood Elementary School, in cooperation with family and community, is to develop the potential of every student through successful learning experiences in a supportive environment so that each shall be a contributing member of our ever-changing society.

Utilizing governing values, and a comprehensive strategic plan, we work hard to practice our mission and are proud to be the "best" of the 54 elementary schools in Virginia Beach. Located midway off Great Neck Road, we currently have 548 enrolled students in a K-5 facility.

Through Trantwood's focus on student achievement, setting of high expectations, individualizing student instruction, and emphasizing language-based and writing instruction, our scores on the SOLs at grades 3 and 5 and the Stanford Achievement test are high. Our teachers never take this for granted and are continually working to improve student achievement.

"Courteous Cardinals" are announced daily in order to recognize student achievement and enhance student citizenship.

We would invite you to visit so you may experience a "child-centered" school, give it that Trantwood Try, and catch the Cardinal Spirit. Our assistant principal Mrs. Grace Colombara and I would be happy to give you a personal tour.
