Continuous
Improvement Model |
|
| Continuous Improvement is a driving force for the Virginia Beach
City Public Schools. The Office of Organizational Development, in
conjunction with representatives from other offices and departments,
developed the Continuous Improvement Model (CIM) in the spring of
2001. CIM is a model that ensures the school division’s focus
on student achievement, while providing a structure for the schools
to develop their individual Plans for Continuous Improvement (PCI).
This model serves as the local accountability reporting format for
growth toward, and the achievement and maintenance of, full accreditation
by the Commonwealth of Virginia. The VBCPS believes in recognition
for continuous improvement and has created the Superintendent’s
Quality Award. This award was created in 1999 to recognize improvement
efforts that impact the quality of learning in VBCPS. Any VBCPS employee,
team, school, or team of students that submits a nomination form and
meets the criteria is eligible to earn this quarterly award. In 1982
the United States Senate authorized an awards program designed to
recognize excellence in organizational performance. The program, known
as the United States Senate Productivity and Quality Award (SPQA),
seeks to highlight the accomplishments of business, government, and
non-profit organizations. Patterned after the Malcolm Baldrige National
Quality Award (MBNQA), the SPQA award is an annual recognition of
those Virginia organizations that excel in performance, quality, and
customer satisfaction. Finally, all of the continuous improvement that
happens in VBCPS is governed by the goals outlined in the VBCPS Strategic
Plan. This plan provides an umbrella, as well as a support, for school
improvement through its focus on eight areas. |
